Text 1
My Sister First Flight
I took my sister, Katy, for her first flight last month. When we arrived at the airport, she wanted to know why the official weighed the luggage. Then she wondered why she needed a passport. She didn't understand what the security check for. Then she asked who the flight attendant was. When she saw the plane, she couldn't understand what the captain did and where he sat.
What a lot of questions! I was very pleased when we landed.

Visiting Ketep Pass
Last holiday, I visited Ketep Pass in Magelang Regency. It offers the view of high land. I went there with my friends. We left Solo at 7 p.m. through Salatiga town. On the way to Ketep, we enjoyed the view of cocoa plantation and beautiful landscape.
After three hours riding, we arrived at Ketep Pass. Unfortunately, it was still foggy. We were so disappointed because we could not see the beauty of high land. Then we decided to enter the museum of Merapi volcano. There are many pictures of eruption. After that, we continued to see the Merapi eruption film. It was really great. I have never seen it before.
All of us felt very happy because we have got a lot of new experiences.

Level: English for Junior High School
24-hours online learning
Lawang Sewu
Lawang Sewu is an important place in Semarang and for many years tourists have been returning to Semarang only to have a glimpse of this amazing place here. They love coming here simply because of the distinctive Dutch symbolism and the immensely long corridors leading to the offices on the other side.
Lawang Sewu is famous for the Thousand Doors and windows and the fascinating long winding windows representing the Dutch Symbolism of the places. The building has numerous long winding corridors which open out to the offices on one side of the office and the other end of the building on the other hand. It is a famous landmark on the region of Semarang.
The place was actually built as the main colonial office for the Dutch and was then taken over by Japanese government. This place was important because it was used for giving shelter to the soldiers here. The place was often considered to be haunted place as many people believed that the place was inhabited by spirits and ghosts.
However, later the place was converted into a heritage site and many come to visit the place during their holidays or vacation while coming to visit Semarang.

Text 2
Sea Eagle
There is an eagle nesting on the tree top near my grandparent's house in Pangandaran. It is a sea eagle.
The color of its feathers is light brown. It has a strong and sharp yellowish beak. Its claws are very sharp. It hunts for fish in the sea but sometimes it hunts chicken and small birds.
Eagle has many sizes, shapes, and colors, but the sea eagle is easy to recognize because it has a strong and streamlined, sharp beak and a stream - line body.
Its forelimbs (or arms) serve as wings. This means that they are of little use of anything except flying. It walks on two legs and has a very flexible neck and strong beak to handle foods, to care of its feathers, and for many other jobs that non-flying animals do with paws, claws, or hands on their forelimbs.

Recount Text: Flood in Purwodadi and Having Stomachache

Level: English for Junior High School
24-hours online learning

Example of Recount Text 1
Flood in Purwodadi
It was still raining when I was home. The rain did not stop and became bigger when the night had come. People were standing in front of their house, hoping that the flood would not come. In the middle of the night, I got news that south Purwodadi had been drowned.
The next day, Purwodadi had become a flood area. All activities were paralyzed. No one went for work or school because the land had been covered by flood. However, I thanked God for not allowing the flood enter my house. Even my house had been changed into an emergency kitchen. It was so crowded there. My father and I took a walk around the center market and central Purwodadi. All that we could see was water and water. At night, the flood looked like a beautiful ocean with moonlight on it. I felt as if I was one of the passenger of Titanic who was sailing on the sea.
Finally, the flood was starting to decrease in the next morning. My family and I cleaned our front yard together. That was the greatest flood that I had ever experienced in my hometown.

Example of Recount Text 2

Having Stomachache
I had a really bad experience last Tuesday. That evening, I saw some mangoes on the table. I was happy because I really like the fruit. I peeled one and ate greedily. I peeled another two. My mother had advised me not to do so, but I said that I would be just fine.
The next morning, I went to school. The first class was Math and I had a test. During the test, I suddenly felt my stomachache. I tried to control it and finish my test. However, I could not. I had to go to the toilet. I went there three times. Because of my awkward behavior, my teacher thought that I had been cheating. I explained what happened. He understood.
However, the test time was almost over and certainly I could not finish it. Luckily, the teacher understood and gave me a chance to do a remedial test the following day. Oh, what a pity! I felt regretful, not listening to my mother's advice.

The Magic Candle
One day, a young wanderer got lost in the wood. Suddenly, he saw a light from an old hut. He knocked on the door, and an old woman opened it. She was crying. She said that a devil had stolen her magic candle. The candle could grant anything she asked. The wanderer asked her where the devil lived. "In a castle not far from here," said the old woman.
The wanderer went to the castle. There he found the devil but he was old and weak. Therefore, when the wanderer grabbed the magic candle from the devil's table and ran away, he couldn't chase him.
However, the wanderer was not a kind man. He didn't return the candle to the old woman, but kept it for himself. He lit the candle and made a wish, "I want to go far from here."
Suddenly, a genie appeared and took him to a beautiful palace. There was a party in the palace. The wanderer wanted to make some money. So, he lit the candle again and wished for some jewelry. He sold them to the guests and was soon making a lot of money. Then, a princess came to buy some jewelry, but there was nothing left. The wanderer fell in love with her, and asked her to marry him. The kind princess said "yes", and they got married the next day.
In his happiness, the wanderer told the princess about his adventure and the magic candle. Hearing that, the princess got very angry. At night, she lit the candle and wished the wanderer disappeared.

A Cruel King

Level: English for Junior High School
24-hours online learning
A Cruel King
Once upon a time there was a cruel king. Everyone was afraid of him. The people were very poor, because the king took all their money. One day the king's soldiers brought a poor man to the palace. The man didn't have any money and so he couldn't pay his taxes. "If you don't pay immediately, I'll kill you," said the king. "I can't pay," said the poor man, "because I haven't got any money." "Then you must die!" said the king. "GO"
The man fell to the floor." "Please let me go, Your Majesty," he said. "If you don't kill me, I'll teach your horse to talk." The king had a wonderful white horse, and he was very proud of it. He smiled. "All right, he said, you can have one year. If you teach the horse to talk, I'll give you gold and silver. But if you don't, I'll kill you. "GO"
Two soldiers took the man to the horse's stable. "You're stupid," said one of the two soldiers. "You can't teach a horse to talk. It's impossible. At the end of the year, the king will kill you." "Ah," said the man, "I'm not stupid. Before the end of the year four things might happen. The king might die. I might die. The horse might die ... or ... the horse might talk!"

Microscope

Level: English for Junior and Senior High School
24-hours online learning

Report Text
Read the text below attentively!
Microscope
Microscope (from the Greek: micros, "small", and skopedia, "to look" or "to see" is an instrument used to see objects that are too small to the naked eyes. The science of investigating small objects using such instrument is called microscopy. Microscopic means invisible to the eye unless aided by a microscope.
There are many types of microscope. The most common and first to be invented is the optical microscope which uses light to image sample. Other major types of microscopes are the electron microscope and the various types of scanning probe microscope. The first microscope to be developed was the optical microscope although the original inventor is not easy to identify. An early microscope was made in 1590 in Middelburg, Netherlands. Two eyeglass makers variously given credit were Hans Lippershey and Zacharias Jansenn.
It was not until the 1660s and 1970s that the microscope was used extensively for research in Italy, Holland, and England. Marcelo Malpigi in Italy began the analysis of biological structures beginning with the lungs. The greatest contribution came from Antoiy Van Leeuwenhoek who discovered red blood cells and helped popularize microscopy as technique.
