Text 1
My Sister First Flight
I took my sister, Katy, for her first flight last month. When we arrived at the airport, she wanted to know why the official weighed the luggage. Then she wondered why she needed a passport. She didn't understand what the security check for. Then she asked who the flight attendant was. When she saw the plane, she couldn't understand what the captain did and where he sat.
What a lot of questions! I was very pleased when we landed.

Visiting Ketep Pass
Last holiday, I visited Ketep Pass in Magelang Regency. It offers the view of high land. I went there with my friends. We left Solo at 7 p.m. through Salatiga town. On the way to Ketep, we enjoyed the view of cocoa plantation and beautiful landscape.
After three hours riding, we arrived at Ketep Pass. Unfortunately, it was still foggy. We were so disappointed because we could not see the beauty of high land. Then we decided to enter the museum of Merapi volcano. There are many pictures of eruption. After that, we continued to see the Merapi eruption film. It was really great. I have never seen it before.
All of us felt very happy because we have got a lot of new experiences.

Descriptive Text on Lawang Sewu for Grade 8 Semester 1

Level: English for Junior High School
24-hours online learning
Lawang Sewu
Lawang Sewu is an important place in Semarang and for many years tourists have been returning to Semarang only to have a glimpse of this amazing place here. They love coming here simply because of the distinctive Dutch symbolism and the immensely long corridors leading to the offices on the other side.
Lawang Sewu is famous for the Thousand Doors and windows and the fascinating long winding windows representing the Dutch Symbolism of the places. The building has numerous long winding corridors which open out to the offices on one side of the office and the other end of the building on the other hand. It is a famous landmark on the region of Semarang.
The place was actually built as the main colonial office for the Dutch and was then taken over by Japanese government. This place was important because it was used for giving shelter to the soldiers here. The place was often considered to be haunted place as many people believed that the place was inhabited by spirits and ghosts.
However, later the place was converted into a heritage site and many come to visit the place during their holidays or vacation while coming to visit Semarang.

Salsa - Elephant
This is Salsa. Salsa is an Indian elephant, but now it lives in the National Zoo in Washington D.C.
Salsa is young. It is 20 years old. It weighs up to 2500 kg and 2.1 m high at the shoulder. It may consume up to 200 kg of grass a day. It is fond of banana plants, gingers, and leaves of various plants.
Salsa doesn’t have sweat glands so it likes to cool off by rolling in a pond in the zoo. The mud that dries on its skin protects it from the sun. Salsa also likes taking a bath. It makes her fresh and relaxed. Mike, the zookeeper, helps Salsa take a bath. Mike does it every day. He also feeds and talks to Salsa. Salsa likes this guy very much.

Text 2
Sea Eagle
There is an eagle nesting on the tree top near my grandparent's house in Pangandaran. It is a sea eagle.
The color of its feathers is light brown. It has a strong and sharp yellowish beak. Its claws are very sharp. It hunts for fish in the sea but sometimes it hunts chicken and small birds.
Eagle has many sizes, shapes, and colors, but the sea eagle is easy to recognize because it has a strong and streamlined, sharp beak and a stream - line body.
Its forelimbs (or arms) serve as wings. This means that they are of little use of anything except flying. It walks on two legs and has a very flexible neck and strong beak to handle foods, to care of its feathers, and for many other jobs that non-flying animals do with paws, claws, or hands on their forelimbs.
